Phylum Chordata

All animals in the phylum chordata have a rod that runs along the length of the animal. This could be spine or a notochord. The notochord runs along the nerve chord and its found on the back. All chordates have a post-anal tail. Chordates have a closed circulatory system and their blood contains hemoglobin.

Five Classes:

Fish = scales (Focus on fins)
Fish live only underwater they have gills to help them breath underwater. They reproduce using eggs and these eggs are fertilized outside the animal. These animals are Poikilotherm or in other words they are cold blooded animals. Even though Dolphins and Whales live underwater they are not considered fish, but mammals.

Amphibians = smooth or bumpy skin
Amphibians live in on land or in the water. Some of them have features like fish, like some have gills and others have lungs. Eggs are usually fertilized outside of the organism. Like the fish, these animals are Poikilotherm which means they are cold blooded.

Reptiles = scales
Reptiles mostly live on land but some like turtles, crocodiles and some snakes live in water. They have lungs even though some live in water, but they still breath oxygen like any other reptile. They also tend to posses internal fertilization. Like Amphibians and fish, reptiles are also poikilotherm meaning they are cold blooded creatures. The produce and lay eggs to create offspring.
Birds = feathers
Birds live on land and have wings and feathers to fly. They also use lungs to breath oxygen. Laying eggs if there way of reproducing and they have internal fertilization. Unlike reptiles, amphibians and fish, birds are Homeotherm which means they are warm blooded. Even though a bat can fly it is not considered a bird, but a animal due to its wing like structure resembling a mammal hand.

Mammals = fur and hair
Mammals live only on land and they have fur and hair. Unlike reptiles, amphibians and fish, birds are also like mammals which means these two categories are Homeotherm which means they are also warm blooded. For their reproductive systems only vertebrates carry the embryo inside.
